Alec Schreck
Principal, Capitol Hill Media
Alec learned the value of craft and precision with his hands—framing houses, pouring concrete, and doing carpentry work. In the 1990s, while working alongside New York City business owners, he was inspired by firsthand accounts of resilience and the grit required to build an American Dream. In 1999, he moved to the West Coast and immersed himself in community media, teaching himself shooting and non-linear editing. Two years later, after attending an Associated Press broadcast bootcamp in Los Angeles, he joined CBS at KCBS/KCAL in Hollywood.
Over the next two decades, Alec reported, shot, and produced thousands of news, science, and weather broadcasts across diverse U.S. markets before establishing Capitol Hill Media outside Washington, D.C. Early in his broadcast career as a weekend weather anchor at an ABC affiliate, he spent hours manually crunching meteorological data, calculating dew points, barometric pressure trends, and fronts long before modern computer models automated forecasts. That experience taught him a lasting lesson: scientific data only matters if people understand what it means for their lives. If viewers tune out because of technical jargon, the communicator has failed.
Alec brings that same translation philosophy to complex research today. He doesn't pretend to be a scientist; he partners with world-class experts to give their discoveries the clear, compelling voice they deserve. As Senior Advisor for Digital Content at the Global Council for Science and the Environment (GCSE), Alec produced an educational video series for NASA, packaged international research at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and collaborated with prominent figures including former National Science Foundation Director Dr. Rita Colwell. Whether working alongside climate researchers, congressional committee staff, or municipal leaders, he specializes in translating dense findings so they engage decision-makers without alienating or boring the technical experts who built them.
That same instinct drives his work in clean transit. Through his platform, EbikesAreHere, Alec turns a lifelong passion for cycling into an approachable, real-world delivery system for green mobility and environmental awareness. Abstract climate discussions can often feel polarizing or distant; an electric bike is tangible, practical, and accessible.
With micro-mobility now facing growing legislative friction, confusion over vehicle classifications, and public pushback, Alec is spearheading a broader public-private partnership strategy. By bringing together manufacturing executives, transit planners, and municipal regulators into structured policy dialogues, his initiative counters inaccurate vitriol and helps ensure that clean, efficient two-wheeled transportation remains protected on our roads and trails.
